In the spring of 2007 I accepted a one year position as a visiting professor of art at Hastings College in Nebraska.
20/10 was conceived as a means to document, through photography, my response to living in a new location. This physically foreign environment reinforced a contrast of scale — human to nature.
Initially, my idea was to repeatedly document a specific location. I thought that returning to the same location each day would grant me a fuller idea of a place. I discovered through driving to the "place” that I desired to investigate
the area around Hastings more fully.
This resulted in over 1500 photographic images of the region around Hastings, Nebraska from August 2007
to May 2008.
This body of work attempts to distill the fundamental elements of a place.
If such a thing is possible.
